2022-2024 RAM

This covers the ECM Swap/Unlock and Tuning for the 2022-2024 RAM

These trucks can be tuned several different ways depending on the transmission, desired tuning, and whether you want to retain the original ECM.

The available routes are:

  1. Optimized Stock tuning on the original locked ECM — 68RFE trucks only.
  2. Mail-in unlock of the original ECM — allows full performance tuning while retaining the factory computer.
  3. New/pre-prepared 2019–2021 replacement ECM — supplied ready for tuning.
  4. Used 2019–2021 replacement ECM — customer-sourced junkyard ECM.

The sections below explain which option applies and what is required for each.

Optimized Stock Tuning — Original Locked ECM

For 68RFE trucks, we can provide an Optimized Stock calibration that allows the truck to retain its original locked ECM.

This option does not require replacing or mail-in unlocking the factory ECM.

The calibration is performed using EFI Live.

There is one important limitation:

The tune must be loaded onto an EFI Live AutoCal V2 or V3 handheld and then Full Flashed from the handheld. Pass-through flashing will not work for this procedure.

This option is intended for customers who want to retain the original locked ECM and do not require the full performance-tuning options described below.

Performance Tuning / AISIN Trucks

For performance tuning, or for trucks equipped with the AISIN transmission, the factory ECM cannot be used while it remains locked.

You have three options:

  • Mail in the original ECM for unlocking.
  • Use a new/pre-prepared compatible 2019–2021 replacement ECM.
  • Source your own compatible 2019–2021 used ECM.

We can facilitate the mail-in unlock or supply a pre-prepared replacement ECM.

A customer-sourced junkyard ECM is generally less expensive, but there are additional risks. The ECM should come from a stock, untuned truck and must not contain bad sectors or other internal problems.

We cannot verify the history or integrity of a customer-supplied used ECM. Problems with a used ECM can also limit our ability to provide support.

Available Performance Tunes

We offer both single tunes and switch-on-the-fly tuning where supported.

2022 Cab and Chassis trucks do not currently support SOTF.

These trucks are read and programmed using either an HP Tuners MPVI or SFG Tuner.

Performance tuning requires:

  • 6 HP Tuners credits
  • 2018+ SGM bypass cable

The SGM bypass cable must be connected whenever communicating with the applicable modules through HP Tuners.

Option 1 — New / Pre-Prepared Replacement ECM

If you purchase a replacement ECM that has already been prepared for this application, we need information from both the original truck and the replacement ECM before preparing the tune.

Reading

  1. Leave the original factory ECM installed.
  2. Connect your HP Tuners MPVI or SFG Tuner using the 2018+ SGM bypass cable.
  3. Open VCM Editor Beta.
  4. Read the original ECM.
  5. Generate an InfoLog with the original ECM still installed.
  6. Take a clear picture of the white identification sticker on the replacement ECM.
  7. Send us:
    • the original ECM read file,
    • the InfoLog,
    • and the picture of the replacement ECM label.

Send the files to Support@SpeedFarmGarage.com, or reply to your order email.

We will use this information to prepare the tune file for the replacement ECM.

Writing

Once we have supplied the completed tune file:

  1. Turn the truck completely OFF.
  2. Remove the original 2022 ECM.
  3. Install the prepared replacement ECM.
  4. Connect your MPVI or SFG Tuner using the SGM bypass cable.
  5. Open the tune file in VCM Editor Beta.
  6. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN, with the engine NOT running.
  7. Perform a Write Entire to the replacement ECM.
  8. Allow VCM Editor to completely finish the flash.
  9. Once successful, turn the truck off as instructed.

The replacement ECM is now programmed for the truck.

Option 2 — Customer-Supplied Junkyard ECM

A compatible 2019–2021 used ECM can also be used.

The ECM should come from a stock, untuned vehicle.

Because we do not know the history of a used ECM, we recommend gathering information from both the original ECM and the replacement before we prepare the tune.

Reading the Original ECM

  1. Leave the original ECM installed.
  2. Connect your MPVI or SFG Tuner using the SGM bypass cable.
  3. Open VCM Editor Beta.
  4. Read the original ECM.
  5. Generate an InfoLog with the original ECM installed.
  6. Save both files.

It is also a good idea to take a clear picture of the white identification sticker on the replacement ECM in case we need information from it later.

Reading the Replacement ECM

  1. Turn the truck completely OFF.
  2. Remove the original ECM.
  3. Install the customer-supplied 2019–2021 replacement ECM.
  4. Connect VCM Editor again.
  5. Read the replacement ECM.
  6. Generate another InfoLog, this time with the replacement ECM installed.
  7. Save both files.

Send us:

  • original ECM read,
  • original ECM InfoLog,
  • replacement ECM read,
  • replacement ECM InfoLog,
  • and preferably a photo of the replacement ECM identification label.

Send these to Support@SpeedFarmGarage.com or reply to your order email.

We will then prepare the appropriate tune file.

Writing

Once the completed tune has been supplied:

  1. Leave the replacement ECM installed.
  2. Connect your MPVI or SFG Tuner using the SGM bypass cable.
  3. Open the supplied tune files in VCM Editor Beta. There will be three files, each must be flashed in 1-2-3 order as labelled
  4. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN, with the engine NOT running.
  5. Select Write Entire.
  6. Begin the flash.
  7. Do not interrupt the programming process.
  8. Wait until VCM Editor confirms that programming has completed.

The replacement ECM is now programmed for the truck.

Option 3 — Mail-In Unlock of the Original ECM

If you prefer to retain your original factory ECM, we can facilitate a mail-in unlock.

Unlocking and Reading

  1. Order the appropriate mail-in ECM unlock.
  2. Remove the original ECM from the truck.
  3. Ship the ECM to the address provided with the unlock order.
  4. Wait for the unlocked ECM to be returned.
  5. Reinstall the original ECM into the truck.
  6. Connect your MPVI or SFG Tuner using the SGM bypass cable.
  7. Open VCM Editor Beta.
  8. Read the now-unlocked original ECM.
  9. Save the stock read file.
  10. Send the file to Support@SpeedFarmGarage.com or reply to your order email.

We will then create the tuned file.

Writing

Once the tuned file has been supplied:

  1. Leave the unlocked original ECM installed.
  2. Connect your MPVI or SFG Tuner using the SGM bypass cable.
  3. Open the tune file in VCM Editor Beta.
  4. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN, with the engine NOT running.
  5. Perform a Write Entire.
  6. Do not interrupt the flash.
  7. Allow VCM Editor to completely finish programming.

The original ECM is now unlocked and tuned.

The default HP Tuners location is commonly:

Documents → HP Tuners → Logs and Tunes

  1. Send the requested file to Support@SpeedFarmGarage.com.
Creating an InfoLog

When we request an InfoLog, create it with the ECM specified in the instructions currently installed in the truck.

The InfoLog allows us to see additional controller and calibration identification information that may not be obvious from the tune file alone.

Save the InfoLog and send it along with the corresponding ECM read.

Be careful to clearly identify which InfoLog belongs to which ECM when sending information from both the original and replacement computers.

HP Tuners — Writing an ECM

Battery voltage must remain stable throughout programming.

We recommend connecting a suitable battery charger, particularly if battery condition is unknown or the truck has been sitting for an extended period.

Loss of power during an ECM write can damage or corrupt the controller.

  1. Download the tune file we supplied by email.
  2. Install the correct ECM for the tuning option you are using.
  3. Connect the 2018+ SGM bypass cable.
  4. Connect your MPVI or SFG Tuner.
  5. Open VCM Editor Beta.
  6. Go to:

File → Open

  1. Select the tune file we supplied.
  2. Go to:

Help → Resync Interface

This allows the interface to synchronize its current credits and licensing information.

  1. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN, with the engine NOT running.

Accessory mode will not work.

  1. Go to:

Flash → Write Vehicle

  1. If VCM Editor displays a License Options button, select it and license the required module.

HP Tuners licensing is performed for the appropriate calibration/module as shown by VCM Editor. Follow the licensing prompts before continuing.

  1. Select Write Entire for the ECM.
  2. Click Write Vehicle.
  3. Programming will now begin.

Do not disconnect the laptop, tuning device, SGM bypass cable, ECM, battery charger, or vehicle power while programming is in progress.

  1. Wait until VCM Editor confirms that the programming procedure has successfully completed.
  2. Turn the ignition OFF when instructed.
  3. Once the process is completely finished, disconnect the tuning hardware.
  4. Remove the temporary SGM bypass cable if desired and return the vehicle wiring to its normal configuration.

The truck is now ready for the modifications accounted for in the tune to be installed.
