EFI Live
EFI Live is commonly needed for tuning on certain vehicles, such as heavy-duty vehicles or heavily modified vehicles. It is a more powerful tuning option than EZ Lynk, which we also offer for some applications.
In this guide, we address some of the most common difficulties users encounter and explain exactly how to work through them.
When using your own AutoCal instead of one that was pre-loaded for you, we will need the AutoCal Serial Number and Auth Code before we can prepare your tuning.
You may also send the Serial Number and Auth Code by replying directly to your receipt email.
AutoCal devices are linked to a specific tuner.
The tune files supplied for your order must match the tuner your AutoCal is linked to. If your AutoCal is currently linked to another tuner, it may need to be unlinked before it can be used with your new tuning.
Your previous tuner should normally be able to supply an unlink code. EFI Live also sells AutoCal unlink codes for $50.
Purchase an AutoCal Unlink Code
Once complete, the AutoCal will no longer be linked to the previous tuner.
Link codes will be provided after purchase when requested.
The AutoCal will then be linked correctly for the tune files supplied with your order.
Some trucks require us to receive a stock read before we can prepare the tuning.
This is particularly common with:
There are two ways to read the stock file.
Our favourite method is to perform a pass-through read using a laptop.
This allows the laptop to communicate with the vehicle through the AutoCal or FlashScan.
If both the ECM and TCM need to be read, repeat the process for the other controller.
If a laptop is not available at the vehicle, the AutoCal handheld can also read stock files by itself.
The stock file will be saved onto the AutoCal.
You can then connect the AutoCal to a Windows computer and transfer the file using EFI Live Explorer.
Use the following list when EFI Live asks you to select the appropriate engine or transmission controller.

Use this procedure when you need to copy a stock read file, datalog, or other file from the AutoCal onto your computer.
The file is now saved on your computer and can be emailed to us as required.
If you purchase an additional EFI Live VIN License from us, we will email you instructions containing your specific activation information.
The email will contain information similar to this:
Your VIN License Activation Code is:
AutoCal Serial Number: ############
Activation Code: ########
Number of VIN Licenses Purchased: #
Total License Number: #
The Activation Code and Total License Number are the important values that must be entered into the AutoCal.
The additional VIN License should now be available on the AutoCal.
There are two common ways to write the tune to the vehicle.
This method allows you to place the tune file onto the AutoCal and then flash the truck directly from the handheld.

You MUST have an available VIN License to perform ECU writing functions if the vehicle is not already licensed to the AutoCal.
For certain Cummins trucks, we may provide a PATCH file.
If we have provided a PATCH file:
If the AutoCal tells you that the vehicle is unlicensed:
By default, AutoCals purchased from us come loaded with a VIN License.
Once the flash begins:
The vehicle is now ready to run.
Pass-through tuning is the most powerful way to perform an EFI Live flash.
Rather than relying entirely on the handheld AutoCal process, the laptop communicates through the AutoCal directly with the vehicle.
This bypasses a number of assumptions the AutoCal makes during handheld flashing and generally provides the highest success rate.
It is especially important on Cab and Chassis trucks, which often require this method.
You MUST have an available VIN License to perform ECU writing functions if the vehicle is not already licensed to your EFI Live device.

Congratulations — your truck is tuned.
For the first few hundred miles after tuning, it is best to avoid repeated full-throttle driving while heavily loaded.
The ECM and TCM may need time to perform their relearn functions and adapt to the new calibration.
You can consider this a “computer break-in period” to put it into more familiar terminology.
Normal driving during this period helps the controllers learn the vehicle's operating behaviour before being subjected to repeated heavily loaded full-throttle operation.
When sending us a datalog, we generally want several operating conditions captured in ONE datalogging session.
If it is safe to do so, please record:
Higher gears are generally better for us because they provide more usable operating time under load.
Only perform a full-throttle acceleration where it is safe and legal to do so.
If you are trying to diagnose a specific issue and that issue does not occur during the above conditions, please also continue the datalog until you are able to reproduce the fault.
The most useful log is one where we can actually see the problem occur.
If the AutoCal is not configured with the required controllers or logging parameters, see the BBX Configuration section below.
The log can then be transferred onto your computer using EFI Live Explorer.
Use the following list when EFI Live asks you to select the appropriate engine or transmission controller.

Sometimes an AutoCal does not have the functionality configured from the factory to:
This is okay and can normally be corrected by changing the BBX configuration.
The files below cover our common configurations. Download the Primary BBX unless instructed elsewise
Once complete, the AutoCal should now have the required configuration to perform the stock read or datalogging function you need.

Thank you for your support.
If you run into a problem that is not covered here, contact us at Support@SpeedFarmGarage.com and provide as much information as possible about the vehicle, EFI Live device, and the step where the issue occurred.
