EcoDiesel
EcoDiesel tuning is performed using HP Tuners VCM Suite and an HP Tuners-compatible interface.
Before starting, download and install the latest VCM Suite Beta:
Depending on the model year, additional hardware or preparation may be required:
Make sure any required bypass hardware installation and/or ECM unlock has been completed before attempting to read or write the vehicle.
When communicating with the truck, the ignition must be in the ON/RUN position with the engine NOT running.
We need a stock read from the vehicle before creating your tune.
Do not disconnect the MPVI, laptop, bypass cable, or vehicle power while the read is in progress.
The default HP Tuners location is commonly:
Documents → HP Tuners → Logs and Tunes
We will use the stock read from your truck to create the appropriate tuned file.
VCM Editor may determine that the ECM software needs to be updated before it can complete the read.
If you receive a Module Update prompt:
This process may take several minutes.
Do not interrupt vehicle power or disconnect the MPVI while the module update is being written.
Once the update has completed, return to the normal Read Vehicle procedure above.
You should now be able to read the ECM and send the resulting stock file to us.
Once we have prepared your tune, we will send the completed file to you by email.
For 2018+ trucks, make sure the required OBD/SGM bypass cable is installed before beginning.
This allows the interface to synchronize its current licensing and HP Tuners credit information.
The Write Vehicle screen will look similar to the screen used when reading the truck.
HP Tuners Licensing
If VCM Editor asks you to license the controller:
Licensing the controller allows future tune revisions for that licensed controller without purchasing another set of credits for each file.
Once licensing is complete, continue with the write.
During Programming
Once the write begins:
Wait until VCM Editor confirms that programming has successfully completed.
When the writer reports that the process is complete:
The tune is now installed.
We recommend starting and testing the truck before installing any aftermarket performance parts if safe.
Check for any new warning messages, diagnostic faults, or unexpected operation.
If any new faults are present, contact us before continuing so we can provide specific assistance.
Once the truck is operating correctly with the tune installed, you may proceed with installing the aftermarket parts that were accounted for in your tune.
Leave the throttle valve plugged in.
The throttle valve is NOT tuned out on the EcoDiesel, unlike the configuration used with performance tuning on many other diesel applications.
Disconnecting it can cause faults or other issues.
